Who We Are

Shortly after the passing in 2024 of our five-year-old son, Freddie, we established his foundation through the Minneapolis Foundation (501c3). While his life was full of love, rich in experiences, and loaded with joy; it was cut far too short because of cancer – a disease which continues to alter the lives of so many. Despite his passing, Freddie will forever remain a victor in his battle through showing us all how to care for others, spread happiness, and exhibit immense toughness in the face of the worst that life can give.

In short, the foundation’s purpose is to help kids and their families who are fighting pediatric cancer and other life changing illnesses. In doing so, the foundation aims to support three equally important areas: 1) organizations providing critical care to kids battling serious illness; 2) organizations creating and cultivating happiness in kids suffering from physical and emotional effects of disease; 3) organizations dedicated to accelerating advancement in immunotherapies and other innovative pathways to cancer cures.

Our Mission

The Freddie Solum Foundation is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Freddie Solum by bringing joy, strength, and hope to children and families affected by pediatric cancer. Inspired by Freddie’s boundless imagination and love for superheroes, we aim to support families through community events, and charitable initiatives that reflect his fearless spirit and vibrant energy. Every dollar raised through foundation activities will go toward these objectives, which will remain in perpetuity until pediatric cancer no longer devastates kids and their families.

About Freddie

Freddie Solum was the kind of kid who lit up every room. With a heart full of curiosity and a mind full of dreams, he saw the world not just how it is, but how it could be. Whether he was donning a superhero cape, cracking a joke, or diving into a new adventure, Freddie approached life with fearless enthusiasm and a spark that inspired everyone around him. Alhough his time with us was far too short, Freddie’s impact was immeasurable. His joy, imagination, and strength continue to live on through the people who loved him—and through the work of this foundation, built in his honor.

At the Park

Nestled in a playful spot at Lake Harriet Bandshell Park, you’ll find a bench dedicated to Freddie. It’s more than just a place to sit—it’s a place to be with him, surrounded by the sounds of nature and laughter. Whether you’re sharing a quiet moment or watching your loved ones play at the park, you’re always welcome.

Just like Freddie, help us continue to spread joy by leaving behind painted rocks or gems. When leaving one behind, be sure to grab a rock for yourself! You'll find the rock garden on the fence line behind his bench.

In the Neighborhood

Just around the corner at 40th & Vincent Ave S in Minneapolis, Freddie’s Fun House invites you to explore, share, and connect. Stocked with books and trinkets, you’ll find many small treasures. It’s a little library full of surprises—ones Freddie loved to find. Feel free to drop by, pick up a story, leave behind a surprise, or simply soak in the joy of a community space built with love.
